Jamie Foxx will host a reboot of Showtime at the Apollo, the long-running performance series that showcased the best in black music for 21 years on late night TV. BET is working on a pilot for an all-new Apollo to be hosted by Oscar and Emmy-winning Foxx. Ironically, Jamie was booed off the stage during the Apollo Amateur Contest way back when he was an unknown, struggling comedian.
Originating from Harlem’s fabled Apollo Theater, Showtime at the Apollo ran from 1987 through 2008, and featured the hottest R&B and hip hop stars along with the legendary Apollo Amateur Contest, with its notoriously tough audiences. No word yet on when we’ll see the pilot for the new version on Showtime at the Apollo.
