President Barak Obama has officially stated that he is in support of gay marriage on a national level. “At a certain point I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married,” Obama said. The POTUS has never officially given his position on the issue. In previous years, Obama has simply said that his views on the issue were “evolving.”

It was not until the ABC New interview on May 9 2012 that he made and official statement on the issue. This came quickly after the Vice President Joe Biden and Education Secretary Arne Duncan expressed that they supported gay marriage.

Obama also expressed his disappointment in North Carolina’s decision to install a state constitutional ban on gay marriage this past Tuesday. The decsion to support gay marriage is something that involved the First Lady Michelle Obama. “This is something that, you know, we’ve talked about over the years and she, you know, she feels the same way, she feels the same way that I do,” Obama said.
