President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle’s oldest daughter Malia turns 14 today on Independence Day!  The tween cutey with the huge smile, who is also a budding fashionista has been referred to, along with younger sis Sasha, 11, as “kind, respectful, responsible and well-behaved daughters” by their dad.   He also went on to say that he could not have asked for better girls.  Malia, however, has also been a source of angst for him as well.

The President has not kept it a secret that he fears for what lies ahead for both his daughters.  He has also voiced, what practically every father in America has expressed about their young daughters, that his little Malia is growing up which is a tad scary for any doting dad.  All in all however, Obama  is excited and anxious about seeing both Malia and Sasha grow into young adults.

Malia has blossomed into a beautiful, educated, poised, grounded and unspoiled young lady.  The President and First Lady have always made it clear that they wanted their girls to follow the same rules that they followed when they lived their simpler lives back in Chicago and having girls that are spoiled and not grounded is unacceptable for the powerful pair.

Michelle Obama recently told Ebony that, “Barack and I feel that our greatest responsibility is to raise two productive, respectful, kind empathetic young women.”

Before Obama became the 44th president of these United States,  the devoted father wrote an open heartfelt letter to both his girls describing what he wanted for them in Parade Magazine:

“I want for you—to grow up in a world with no limits on your dreams and no achievements beyond your reach, and to grow into compassionate, committed women who will help build that world. And I want every child to have the same chances to learn and dream and grow and thrive that you girls have. That’s why I’ve taken our family on this great adventure. I am so proud of both of you. I love you more than you can ever know. And I am grateful every day for your patience, poise, grace, and humor as we prepare to start our new life together in the White House.”

Malia, as you mature continue to aspire to be and grow into the very best version of you!  Let your dreams be bigger than your fears and your actions louder than your words.  Make your time count!

We love you Malia, happy birthday!
