WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Westerville City School District sent a notice to parents this week making them aware of a potentially dangerous smartphone app called Snapchat.
The developers of the app describe it as a tool for “real time picture-chatting.”
According to the letter sent to parents, young people are being drawn to the app because users are able to set a timer. Once the timer runs out, the photo supposedly disappears forever – unless a user takes a screenshot of the photo.
The district’s superintendent said in the letter that the app is prompting some students to push the boundaries of what is appropriate.
He said that in some cases, the content is clearly inappropriate. SOURCE
