DUBLIN (Tara Morgan) — A young man is accused of stealing jewelry from elderly women in a retirement community to support his heroin addiction.

According to a search warrant, 22 year old Dillon Gardner admitted to stealing rings from two women at retirement apartments in Dublin and trading the jewelry for heroin. Christine Priday says Gardner stole eight rings from her 89 year old mother late last month. “She was probably dozing in her chair he went to the jewelry box grabbed one thing then opened the drawer right below it and that’s where all these ring boxes were,” said Priday. A second ring theft was reported at the same retirement community.

Dublin police say they recovered rings in a search of Gardner’s car but the items didn’t belong to Priday’s mother. “When they found so much jewelry in his car it just makes you wonder where in the world has he been,” said Priday.

Police believe there are other victims. Gardner is in jail on a separate case out of Columbus. A Dublin police detective says he plans to take his case against Gardner to a grand jury in the next couple of weeks. SOURCE
