COLUMBUS (Steve Levine) — A major two-day crime sweep is underway in Franklin County. Since Thursday morning, 89 people have been taken into custody, two stolen vehicles have been recovered, and authorities have seized, cash, drugs, and guns.
The sweep, called “Operation Shield”, is a 48 hour crime fighting effort between the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, The Ohio Highway Patrol, Columbus Police and the U.S. Marshal’s Service. “You never know what is going to get out of a traffic stop that’s going to lead to a large dope bust, maybe guns,” said Sheriff Zach Scott.
Within the first 36 hours, officers have seized heroin, marijuana, crack, and pills, and arrested people for drunk driving. Officers are concentrating their efforts just south of Interstate 70 because drug couriers are known to frequent those areas.
The operation wraps up at 7 a.m. Saturday. SOURCE
