At the request of those who believed that Fortune had been forever treated like property, the Connecticut slave will finally be laid to rest at a donated plot owned by St. John’s Episcopal Church in Waterbury, the church where he was first baptized in 1797.

Prior to his burial, Fortune’s remains will lie in state in front of the state capitol in Hartford for several hours prior to a ceremony.
