Usher fur hat at LAX

Looks like Pharrell’s hat has had more of an impact on fashion than we thought. The rapper and producer’s now iconic Vivienne Westwood topper hat really got its claim to fame when he wore it to the 2014 Grammy Awards. Pharrell had since been wearing his headline-making hat around town, until recently putting it up for auction on eBay with the proceeds benefiting his From One Hand To Another non-profit. We thought that would be the last of the look-a-like Arby’s hat. Then Usher.

The singer and “Voice” coach has been spotted wearing a fur Davy Crockett-style hat. Usher has been a long-time fan of headgear—remember his bowler hat from the late 90s, doorag and crotchet kufi beanie combo from the early 2000s or longer-lived fedoras from recent years? But it seems like the recent phenomena and press surrounding Pharrell’s topper may have inspired Usher’s new, bolder statement accessory. Although the real question is: will statement hats be the new male fashion trend? And if so, who’s next? You can bet your arse it won’t be Kanye. He claims trends, he doesn’t follow them!
