Jeff Johnson and Raynard Jackson, guests on the “NewsOne Now” panel, joined Roland Martin Monday to discuss diversity at the 2014 Oscars and the future of opportunities for black filmmakers.

During the segment, the question was raised whether Best Picture winner 12 Year a Slave highlights the Academy’s penchant toward of rewarding black stories that center around slavery. In response, Johnson made the point that slavery lasted  for a significant portion of black history and that there are still many untold stories from the period.
