Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal spoke Thursday at the Conservative Political Action Conference about his state’s educational reforms. With an allusion to infamous segregationist governor George Wallace, Jindal took a swipe at Eric Holder’s Justice Department.

“We’ve got Eric Holder and the Department of Justice trying to stand in the schoolhouse door to prevent minority kids, low-income kids, kids who haven’t had access to a great education, the chance to go to better schools,” Jindal said

Perhaps Jindal didn’t realize that one of the students Wallace attempted to block from integrating the University of Alabama in 1963 was Holder’s late sister-in-law, Vivian Malone Jones. Holder sent the governor a friendly reminder.

The Justice Department sent Jindal a copy of Rep. John Lewis’s “Walking with the Wind,” highlighting a section in the memoir in which the civil rights leader discusses Malone Jones’ experience.

“This should help the governor brush up on his history for the next time he invokes the civil rights movement,” Justice Department spokesman Kevin Lewis said in a statement.

Monday morning, Roland Martin and the NewsOne Now panel discussed the exchange and wondered aloud what Jindal what thinking. Listen below.
