Columbus just may just be a political hot spot for the Democratic Convention, with its advancement to the next phase of the selection process to host the 2016 Democratic National Convention.

Columbus officials said the city will be receiving a site survey in July or August 214 as part of the bid process.  “There are few events that provide us the opportunity to showcase our city on a national stage, and we are ready to put forth our best effort and show the DNC and the entire nation just what Columbus is all about,” said Mayor Michael B. Coleman.

The announcement comes days after a delegation of Columbus Democrats made their pitch to host the convention in Washington D.C. on Monday. With Coleman leading the delegation, the team met with the Democratic National Committee explaining why the Democrats should choose Columbus for the 2016 national convention.

“We need to show how we can offer an incredible delegate experience and host some 40,000 guests at our Arena, Convention Center, hotels and restaurants,” said Brian Ross, President and CEO of Experience Columbus and Chair of Columbus 2016.

Columbus pitched the Republicans and failed to make the final cut. Now, the city is in the final six for the Democrats, and likely will make the final four. The chosen city will be announced late this year or early next year.
