CHICAGO (WOIO) –

“The 2016 Republican National Convention is officially coming to Cleveland!” yelled Ohio Republican Party Chairman Matt Borges.

The Republicans officially voted Friday to have their 2016 convention in Cleveland.

The vote and signing came at the RNC’s annual summer meeting in Chicago.

Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson was at the meeting and thanked the Republicans for bringing their convention to the city.

Cleveland beat out Cincinnati, Columbus, Denver, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Phoenix and Dallas.

The RNC site selection committee announced their recommendation on July 8 and it was formally approved Friday.

The RNC site chair said, “If you haven’t been to Cleveland in the past 5 years, you haven’t been to Cleveland.”
