According to ABC 6/ Fox 28, a mother charged with burning her four-year-old daughter will stay behind bars on a quarter of a million dollar bond.

Brandi Byrd faced a judge monday morning for child abuse and felonious assault. She’s accused of holding a curling iron to her four-year-old daughter, Mariyah, which caused major burns and infections to the girl’s arm, thigh, and bottom.

Mariyah’s aunt saw questionable markings and took the girl to the hospital. That’s where all the injuries were uncovered.

“I’d seen burns on her leg. One of the burns was wrapped up,” said Alice Williams, Mariyah’s aunt. “That was enough to say in the back of my mind, ‘this was not an accident.’ God will see justice for Mariyah. That was my goal.”

Mariyah was in the hospital for over a week, but now is in the temporary care of her aunt, Alice Williams.
