According to The Columbus Dispatch, Ohio State University is hiring the chief of the Virginia Commonwealth University health system to lead its Wexner Medical Center.

Dr. Sheldon Retchin will start at Ohio State on March 2 as executive vice president of health sciences and CEO of the Wexner Medical Center. He is replacing Dr. Steven Gabbe, who announced his retirement in February. Retchin will be paid a base salary of $1.1 million.

Ohio State officials describe Retchin as one of the nation’s most respected and prominent academic medical center leaders. He has been senior vice president for health sciences at VCU and CEO of the VCU Health System since 2003. He is a practicing internist with qualifications in geriatric medicine.
