Prince announced the “Welcome 2 America” tour at a press conference today at New York City’s famed Apollo Theater.

Prince will be joined on the multi-city tour of the United States with Sheila E, Janelle Monae, Esperanza Spalding, Cassandra Wilson, Mint Condition, Maceo Parker and Larry Graham & Graham Central Station.

No specific dates for the tour, which starts in December, have been announced yet.

“Bring your friends, bring your children,” Prince told the packed crowd, “and bring foot spray, because it’s going to be funky.”

While not forthcoming with details about what he would be playing, Prince assured attendees at the media gathering that they would not be let down by the show.

“Come early, come often. I have a lot of hits. No two shows will be the same,” he said.

A gold Fender guitar that sat on stage, that will presumably be played by Prince on the tour, will be auctioned off at the end of the tour. The auction will benefit the economic recovery group Harlem Children’s Zone.
