Since then the event has gained tremendous support from Central Ohioans, attracting hundreds of local community celebrities, volunteers and supporters from various corporations throughout Central Ohio.
This year’s event will celebrate the life and achievements of former Ohio State Buckeye and Oakland Raider great Jack Tatum. Tatum passed away recently at the age of 61 from a heart attack and complications of diabetes. The Celebrities for Diabetes event started after Tatum had part of his left leg amputated due to complications of diabetes. He was experiencing further complications and with his right leg at risk, Tatum returned to Columbus to be treated by local diabetes expert Dr. Manuel Tzagournis. Through Dr. Tzagournis’ care, Jack was able to recover and to avoid further complications. Out of gratitude to Dr. Tzagournis, and in his honor, Jack Tatum and others held the first One Game Season in 2003 to raise money for the diabetes programs and services of the Central Ohio Diabetes Association. The event has raised nearly $1 million to support the agency and this year we will honor Jack’s memory by continuing his legacy on Tuesday, November 23rd at The LC Pavilion.
Once again the Central Ohio Diabetes Association will host Celebrities for Diabetes during the week of the Michigan vs. Ohio State football game. This event will include heavy hors d’oeuvres by select local chefs, live and silent auctions, and the main program featuring a panel discussion about the game and rivalry with former players and coaches from Ohio State University and the University of Michigan. In addition, there will be an autograph session to give all attendees the opportunity to meet the players.
