R&B music icon Mary J. Blige has been signed to portray jazz legend Nina Simone.  The ink has just dried on the agreement. The movie, written by Cynthia Mort was recently sold and financed. William Morris Endeavor’s Global Finance & Distribution Group brought the film to Britain’s Ealing Studios.Ealing is financing, producing and selling internationally the $10 million movie, which is scheduled to shoot in the northern autumn. Simone was a singer, songwriter, pianist, arranger and civil rights activist. She died in 1993, aged 70.  It will begin production this fall.“I’m definitely still doing it and I’m in acting classes for it now. We start shooting at the end of the month!” the singer told BET.com.

Mary also makes a cameo appearance with the film “Rock of Ages” starring alongside Tom Cruise and Alec Baldwin.
