No, this is not a sick joke, this actually happened.
Actor, Doug Hutchison, 51,who you might have recognized from movies such as The Green Mile or I Am Sam, married the 16 year old, Courtney Stodden last month in Vegas and recently posted up pictures of him and his (child) bride on his site. But wait, isn’t the age of consent 18 in Vegas?
Well, actually, it drops to 16 with the consent of the parents.
Hutchison has acknowledged that the 35 year is a bit…rare to say the least, but he says that their love is “ageless”. Even the bride’s own father says he is a good man. I would say that too, if my 16 year old daughter was marrying a man 4 years older than me. Stodden’s mother went on the defend the couple saying that they are in love and went as far as saying she is a “good Christian girl” who was a virgin when the pair got married.
My only question is what is the difference between this and a marriage in Traditional Mormon Utah? How does this NOT count as pedophilia?
