Members of the faith based community are invited to the Columbus Urban League located at 788 Mt. Vernon Avenue on Friday September 28th from 9:30am -12:30p.  The summit is FREE and open to the public.  The event is entitled:  Getting Ohioans Back to Work: Jobs Clubs and Career Ministries.  Please RSVP by Friday, September 21, 2012 to: RSVP@brown.senate.gov. 10a -11a –Panel #1: Jobs Clubs and Career Ministries: Getting Ohioans Back to Work

Leaders representing a diverse group of congregations will discuss their experiences coordinating employment support groups. Panelists will share ideas and approaches related to managing a jobs club, using technology, engaging volunteers, and addressing the spiritual, emotional, and job search needs of unemployed community members and congregants.

Representatives from the government and nonprofit sectors will also share information on workforce development and organizational development programs. The panelists will provide information and tools to advise job seekers. They will also discuss programs in the community that can offer training and employment services to job seekers. Finally, they will share information on resources and partnerships that help build the capacity and sustain the efforts of faith and community based jobs clubs and ministries.

 

11a -11:45a Panel #2: Grants Workshop

Representatives from the federal government will discuss a range of funding and partnership resources for nonprofit organizations, including faith-based and community groups, with a focus on economic development and employment related grants and programs.

Breakout Session #1: Securing a Second Chance: Enhancing Reentry and Reducing Recidivism

Panelists will share ideas and possible solutions regarding which roles faith based institutions and community organizations can play to reintegrate Ohioans back into the community following incarceration. Panelists will share information and ideas on how faith based leaders can support and partner with community organizations to reduce recidivism rates.

 

Breakout Session #2: New State Voting Laws: Protecting Voting Rights in Ohio

Panelists will discuss recent changes to Ohio’s voting laws and how these changes impact Ohioans.
