The curvy Serena Williams is flaunting all of that muscle tone as the cover girl for Essence magazine’s July 2013 ‘Love Your Body!’ issue. Killing it in a Carmen Marc Valvo ombre one-piece strapless swimsuit, the 31-year-old tennis champion told Essence that she’s still trying to wrap her mind around people being all up in her personal space when it comes to her body — especially her butt.
Even though a few years back she had a huge health scare after doctors found a blood clot in her lung, Serena still says at this point in her life she feels the healthiest she’s ever been.
On the Attention Surrounding Her Body
“It can be a bit weird. Before it was, ‘Serena has a big butt,’ and that was all. Now there are way more people who feel comfortable with themselves and they’re saying, ‘I’m a woman, and this is what I look like.’ I always say, ‘We’re popular now! We’re finally in style!’”
On Her Health
“I feel lighter, I feel healthier, and even though I’m 31—which really isn’t old, but for an athlete, particularly a tennis player, it’s old—I promise you, my body has never felt better. Considering how much I’ve played and how much I’ve done, I feel fine. I’m strong…”
Blue is definitely her color!
