Did you hear about this? Yeah, you read that headline correctly. A fight between Patti and Aretha broke out in Atlanta last month at an R&B/ Soul concert. Allegedly, this riff stemmed from a prior run-in with the two divas at the White House for the “Women of Soul” concert.
While in Atlanta, Franklin gave Labelle major shade backstage, which resulted in the exchange of obscenities between the two. Labelle attempted to approach Franklin to make peace, but Franklin once again turned up her nose. Onlookers say Labelle took off her wig and earrings as she approached Franklin. Aretha, knowing that the removal of earrings is a tell-tale sign that a fight is about to ensue, attempted to prepare herself for the confrontation. Franklin was quickly struck with a Mike Tyson style right and left and stumbled backwards, landing awkwardly. Bystanders subdued Labelle and escorted her outside of the venue. Franklin suffered only minor injuries.
Labelle was quickly taken into custody by the Atlanta Police Department and charged with assault and battery. She was released on a $10,000 bail and will appear in court on April 16th. I mean, really? Can’t we all just along?
