RADIO ONE ANNOUNCES NATIONAL WEAR ORANGE DAY

COLUMBUS, OH MAY 20, 2016:

WHO:   Mayor Andrew Ginther, Radio One Columbus, Columbus Parks and Recreations 

WHAT:                 A press conference, walkathon and balloon release to commemorate National Wear Orange Daywill convene to address the issues impacting gun violence in our community. Attendees, whom we encourage to wear orange, will join together for a walkathon as a public display of solidarity on this critical issue.

WHEN:                 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2016 

WHERE:               The press conference will be held outside of Pure Elegance Hair Salon,  1544 Lockbourne Road Columbus, Oh 43207; marching to Deshler Park at 1368 E. Deshler Avenue, Columbus, OH

WHY:    This event is the first of its kind in the Central Ohio area. The National Gun Violence Awareness Day Event: National Gun Violence Awareness Day (Wear Orange Day) was created with the goal of pulling the community together to take a unified stand against gun violence. Mayor Andrew Ginther, Radio One Public Affairs Director/ Joy 107.1 Mid-Day host Yaves Ellis, Misty Jordan of Magic 95.5, Radio Operations Manager Big Bink Turner of Power 107.5, City Newws of Boom 106.3, and community leaders will speak to the recent rise of gun violence in the community and discuss how we can come together to put an end to it. Attendees are asked to wear orange. Immediately following our speakers, we will march to Deshler Park for a balloon release in remembrance of those who were victims of gun violence.
