2016 may have been an overall disaster, but at least it gave us some of the best shows on television, especially those featuring predominantly black casts. One of those great shows of this year was WGN’s breakout hit series Underground about slaves and the Underground Railroad, starring Jurnee Smollet-Bell. The show was a ratings and critical success right out of the gate and fans have eagerly awaited the series’ second season ever since the action-packed finale aired late last spring. Now it appears the wait is over, as the first look at season two has arrived.

If you have yet to watch Underground to see why it was one of the biggest hits on TV this year, you have until the beginning of March 2017 to get it together. That is when season two of the series premieres, promising more action, drama and big name guest stars, including John Legend as Frederick Douglass. Industry insider Shadow and Act has all the up-to-date details surrounding Underground’s second season, including who is set to play Harriet Tubman.

The season will introduce legendary abolitionist Harriet Tubman, who will be played by Aisha Hinds in a recurring role. Executive producer John Legend will also be appearing this season, portraying famed reformer Frederick Douglass.

Season 2 will focus on the Macon 7 and their continued struggle for freedom within an America on the cusp of a civil war, picking up in the aftermath of their epic escape attempt. The season will be comprised of 10 hour-long episodes.
