Kaepernick receives a big award for his work.
In his continue fight, Colin Kaepernick has been named by GQ Magazine 2017 Citizen of the Year.
Dressed in his afro and black panther attire, Kaepernick has transformed from an NFL start to an important civil rights leader. Olympian John Carlos, who is known for raising his fist at the 1968 Olympics, dubbed Kaepernick as our generations iconic leader.
His transformation began back in 2016 when he first took a knee during the national anthem before an NFL game. Though many peers did not support him at the time, this current football season has shown major protest and many teams taking a knee for black rights.
Kaepernick has donated his 2016 jersey sales to various charities that specialize in black rights and organizations. He has taken his work to places in Africa and spent time with children in urban communities.
Congrats to Kap!
