Why wasn’t ALL the hair products locked up?
We all love to shop at Walmart as the saying goes “you can’t beat their prices.” However, that didn’t stop customers to call out the retailer out on discrimination practices.
It all started in Los Angeles when one customer caught Walmart employees locking up all the hair care products meant for women of color. The problem is these were the only hair products being locked up. To make matters worse, customers who would want to buy these products would have to be escorted by an employee to unlock and walk the customer to the register.
Since the video went viral Walmart has been slapped with a discrimination lawsuit. A spokesperson for the company states that there is a no tolerance for discrimination policy and take the lawsuit seriously.
“We serve more than 140 million customers weekly, crossing all demographics, and are focused on meeting their needs while providing the best shopping experience at each store. We’re sensitive to this situation and also understand, like other retailers, that some products such as electronics, automotive, cosmetics and other personal care products are subject to additional security. Those determinations are made on a store-by-store basis using data supporting the need for the heightened measures. While we’ve yet to review a complaint, we take this situation seriously and look forward to addressing it with the court.”
