After the Ohio Senate voted to pass House Bill 258, more commonly known as the “heartbeat bill”, the Ohio House of Representatives voted 53-32 to approve the bill in the middle of the night.

The bill, which bans abortion after a fetal heartbeat is detected at 12 weeks, is expected to be vetoed by Republican Gov. John Kasich within the 10-day limit to do so as he did in 2016.

If Gov. Kasich vetoes the bill, lawmakers would be forced to return over the holiday break for an override vote to try and get the law to pass before the session ends for the year.
