Franklin County has come up with a new efficient way to have residents contact emergency dispatchers. Now you can text dispatchers.

Don’t get it twisted it is always better to call 911 according to Franklin County Commissioner Marilyn Brown. However, in a certain situation, it is better to text than call.

For example, if someone has broken into your house and you get on the phone, you gonna want to whisper to the dispatcher for help. In those situations, it can be hard for the dispatcher to understand you and the perpetrator will be able to hear and find you to do harm to you. In this situation, it would be best to text for help and find a place to hide and stay quiet.

This also helps those who are hearing impaired be able to give precise information in order to have help be sent their way.
