The 2019 Met Gala Celebrating Camp: Notes on Fashion - Arrivals

Gabrielle Union hit the Met Gala pink carpet serving shimmery baroque inspired disco handmaiden realness. The form fitting Peter Dundas look was expectational all on its own, but it was the beauty looked created by Fiona Stiles that put a sleek touch into the camp.

“When I saw the outfit, I had 3 specific sources for inspo,” said Stiles in a statement to HelloBeautiful. She initially thought that the look would pay homage to the drama of disco sirens, Diana Ross and Donna Summer but when she saw Union slip into the gown and elbow length gloves, she had a vision of a silver sheathed warrior.

“As we got closer and I saw the fitting and saw it on her we thought Eartha Kitt, sixties diva, beautiful, strong,” Stiles continued. Conjure her magic for your next special occasion with the picks below.

Splurge

A strong look starts out with clean and clear skin. Stiles used AVYA Gentle Cleanser ($40.00, avyaskincare.com) to calm Union’s skin with Tumeric and Witch Hazel before she began to build the look. Treat yourself to eyes as bright as the captain of the East Side Clovers with loved AVYA Eye Bright Cream w/ Caffeine ($75, avyaskincare.com). Add to the opulence with the supple AVYA Anti-Aging Power Serum w/ vitamin C ($110, avyaskincare.com). Layer it beneath the AVYA Day Moisturizer ($85, avyaskincare.com) like Stiles did to ensure the smoothest possible texture as a base for your foundation.

Pop out with a face full of Fenty! Mix your true match and your highlight shade in Fenty Pro Filt’r Foundation to address every angle ($35, fentybeauty.com). Add the Fenty Pro Filt’r Concealer ($26,00, fentybeauty.com), which bends without creasing so that you smile or laugh without wrecking your face. Play with dimension using Fenty Loose Setting Powder ($32, fentybeauty.com) before adding color.

After using Tom Ford Shade & Illuminate ($85, tomford.com) to contour Stiles painted Union’s cheeks with Clinique Cheek Pop in “cola pop” as a “a nod to Grace Jones.” Stiles choose Lancome Sourcil Gel in Noir ($24, lancome-usa.com) to draw out Union’s brows. She played with texture by choosing radiant mousse shadow in “chocolate diamond” and “24k gold” from Dome Beauty ($25, DomeBeauty.com) on the lids. She matched the satiny ink tone of the gloves by lining the eyes with the Dome Beauty Black Gel Eyeliner in “Blackout” ($23, DomeBeauty.com).

Tom Ford “Bare” ($55, neimanmarcus.com) allowed the focus to remain on Union’s eyes.

Pick up a pair of luxe lashes coat them in Dome Beauty Black Magic Magnetic Mascara in “Black Magic” ($22, DomeBeauty.com) before gluing a rhinestone to your eye’s inner corner and stepping into your own high fashion moment.
