A Columbus dad is making national news as he won a huge lawsuit against his employer JPMorgan Chase. Derek Rotondo is the Chase employee who filed the sex discrimination charge that led to the $5 million settlement.
“I’m proud that since I filed my charge, Chase has clarified its policy to ensure that both male and female employees who wish to be the primary parental caregiver have equal access to those benefits,” Rotondo said in a statement.
Rotondo has been with Chase for 15 years as a fraud investigator. He requested 14 weeks of “primary caregiver” leave after his son was born in June 2017. It was denied. The dad went ahead and did some digging and found out mothers can take up to 16 weeks off and that dads were only entitled to 2 weeks.
Thursday a federal court sided with Rotondo and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). The court stating the company was in violation of the gender-neutral parental leave policy, and order compensate male workers denied access to paid parental leave on the same terms as mothers from 2011 to 2017.
