To lose someone you love is always difficult but for a person you know and care about to take their own life is even more difficult. The ones left behind after a suicide are haunted by questions that can never be answered…and the guilt that perhaps something could have been done to prevent such a tragedy. 1. Don Cornelius – 76 years old
Television show host and producer Don Cornelius died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head on February 1, 2012. He was the creator of the nationally syndicated dance/music franchise Soul Train. According to former Soul Train host, Shemar Moore, Cornelius may have been suffering from early onset of dementia or Alzheimer’s disease and his health had been in decline.
2. Chris Lighty – 44 years old.
Music industry executive Darrell Steven Lighty was found dead on August 30, 2012 from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The New York Times called him “one of the most powerful figures in the hip-hop business.”
3. Junior Seau – 43 years old
NFL linebacker Tiaina Baul “Junior” Seau Jr. committed suicide with a gunshot wound to the chest on May 2, 2012. Sadly, later studies by the National Institutes of Health concluded that he suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a type of chronic brain damage that had also been found in other deceased former NFL players.
4. Phylis Hyman – 45 years old
Singer Phyllis Linda Hyman committed suicide by overdosing on pentobarbital and secobarbital in the bedroom of her New York City apartment on June 30, 1995. Her suicide note read in part: “I’m tired. I’m tired. Those of you that I love know who you are. May God bless you.
5. Christine Chubbuck – 29 years old
Christine Chubbuck was a reporter and host for Suncoast Digest, a community affairs talk show, located in Sarasota, Fl. She committed suicide on July 15, 1974 during a live television broadcast by shooting herself in the head. It was later revealed that she suffered from depression. (Photo: Tumblr)
6. Lee Thompson Young – 29 years old
Actor Lee Thompson Young was found dead on August 19, 2013 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He failed to show up for filming an episode of Rizzoli & Isles and police were called to do a well-being check on him. Lee had been acting since he was thirteen years old.
7. Nick Santino – 47 years old
Actor Nick Santino committed suicide on January 25, 2012. New building management and (some) neighbors harrassed him about his dog, Rocco, a pitbull he had rescued a few years back. He had Rocco euthanized the day before and his note read ‘Today I betrayed my best friend. Rocco trusted me and I failed him. He didn’t deserve this.’ (Photo: Tumblr)
8. Paul Williams – 34 years old
Founding member of the Temptations Paul Williams died in 1973 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
9. Roy Raymond – 46 years old
The founder of Victoria’s Secret lingerie retail store, Roy Raymond committed suicide by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco on August 26, 1993. (Photo: Tumblr)
10. Donny Hathaway – 33 years old
Jazz, Blues, Soul & Gospel singer-songwriter and musician Donny Hathaway committed suicide by jumping from the balcony of his 15th-floor room in New York’s Essex House hotel on January 13, 1979. 11. Kenny McKinley – 23 years old
Denver Broncos wide receiver Kenny McKinley was found dead on September 20, 2010 of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
12. Rob Pilatus – 32 years old
Singer, dancer and model Rob Pilatus of Milli Vanilli fame was found dead on April 2, 1998 after ingesting a mixture of drugs and alcohol. He had struggled with substance abuse and had already survived a few suicide attempts. (Photo: Tumblr)
13. Freddy E – 22 years old
Hip-hop artist Frederick E. Buhl aka Freddy E died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound on January 5, 2013. He was known for his edgy YouTube program Jerk TV, which had thousands of subscribers and millions of video views.
14. Jovan Belcher – 25 years old
Kansas City Chiefs’ linebacker Jovan Belcher died on December 1, 2012 in a murder-suicide, killing his girlfriend, 22-year-old Kasandra Perkins, before driving to the Chiefs’ training facility and shooting himself in the head with a hand gun.
15. Millicent Lilian “Peg” Entwistle – 24 years old
Actress Peg Entwistle jumped to her death from the “H” on the Hollywood sign in California on September 16, 1932. She began her stage career in 1925, appearing in several Broadway productions. She appeared in only one film, Thirteen Women, which was released after her death.
16. Freddie Prinze – 22 years old
Actor and comedian Freddie Prinze shot himself in the head on January 28, 1977. He was rushed to the UCLA Medical Center and was placed on life support following emergency surgery. 17. Moses Khumalo – 27 years old
Musician Moses Khumalo died of an apparent suicide by hanging on September 4, 2006. He had been dubbed as “one of South Africa’s most promising young saxophonists.” (Photo: YouTube)

British reggae singer and DJ David Victor Emmanuel better known as Smiley Culture died from a self-inflicted stab wound to the heart on March 15, 2011.
