San Francisco’s District Attorney’s Office is going to clear misdemeanor marijuana possession convictions dating all the way back to 1975. This move will definitely effect thousands of people.

The DA’s office will wipe out the convictions by retroactively applying the law that was passed by voters this year, which legalized the recreational use of mary jane for adults who are 21 and over. They will be dismissing over 3000 misdemeanor convictions and they will review, recall, and re-sentence nearly 5,000 marijuana convictions. They believe that they are taking the lead to undo the damage that this country’s disastrous , failed, drug war has had on our nation and on communities of color in particular.
