Deputy Chief Kimberley Jacobs will be named the next chief of the Columbus Division of Police, according to sources. She will take over for retiring Chief Walter Distelzweig, who left his post in January. Jacobs will become the 32nd police chief in the city’s history and the first female chief.

She has been with the Columbus Division of Police since 1979 and was most recently assigned to the Administrative Subdivision. Jacobs was the first woman on the force to be promoted to Commander in 1995 and to Deputy Chief in 2009.
