Get Your Vote On!
Election Day is here already! Next Tuesday, people around the country and here in Central Ohio will head to the polls to cast their votes in yet another historic election. Do you know who you are voting for? Do you know where to go vote? Try not to panic. It’s simple.
To learn more about the candidates and issues that are on the ballot next week, you can visit the Ohio Secretary of State’s website at http://www.sos.state.oh.us and click on the ‘Candidate’s Guide’ at the bottom of the home page. From there, you can customize your search by party, city, county or by office. This site will provide you with pictures and a brief bio about each candidate.
Another way to search for information about candidates and issues is to locate one of the thousands of yards signs littering the highways and streets around the city. Most of these signs have their websites listed. If you are unable to capture the information while driving around, use your favorite search engine on the internet. Not only will you be able to find their website, but you will also find articles, pictures and videos online that will help you to make an educated decision on who and what to vote for.
Now that you have the resources to learn more about the candidates and issues, let’s talk about voting and where to go. In 2008, Ohio established early voting as a means to eliminate long lines and confusing situations when it is time to vote. Registered voters should have received a letter notifying them of their polling location and times. If you did not receive a letter from your county elections office, then you can visit the Franklin County Board of Elections (FCBE) website at http://www.vote.franklincountyohio.gov to find out more information. If you are unable to locate your polling location online, you can vote in-person at the FCBE from now until November 2, 2010.
Please remember to bring a photo I.D., a utility bill or other forms of identification to show proof of address. These items are required. If you are a registered voter, you CANNOT be denied the right to vote! Should you have a problem, contact the FCBE at 614-462-3100 and they will assist you.
You now have all of the information you need to be an informed and educated voter. Please spread the word and make sure you participate in this important and historic election. Remember that voting does make a difference. Make it count!
