On the heels of receiving a Grammy nomination for “Wrong Side Of A Love Song,” Melanie Fiona shot the music video this past weekend. The visuals for the emotional narrative cut was directed by Larenz Tate, who cast Omari Hardwick (For Colored Girls, Sparkle) as Fiona’s love interest.

Melanie Fiona and Hardwick immediately found chemistry as Hardwick shared the same experience in pass relationships as the song. “The chemistry between Melanie and I comes out in the fact that our spirits and our souls were very much in line with falling in love in very similar ways, having our hearts broken in very similar ways, trying to mend our hearts in very similar ways – She just basically wrote the diagram of that,” Hardwick told Singersroom.

Fiona adds: It was a very very natural energy…it was just something about Omari that I believed and I felt was real…The minute I met him and I saw him, I was like yep, this is gonna work. There was just a sense of ease that he brought out of me.”
