Friends and family of late R&B  singer Gerald Levert are in shock over a fire that officials say destroyed his Ohio estate over the weekend. Officially declared a “total loss” Sunday, sources say the home was “fully involved” when firefighters arrived on scene Saturday, April 17.

Geauga County Sheriff’s Office say the home, which was vacant at the time, and its 8.93 acres was appraised at $510,000.  Levert, son of O’Jays singer Eddie Levert, bought the house in April 1994 and died there at the age of 40 in 2006.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer said the fire erupted Saturday night at the two-story brick home, which is estimated to be worth $340,000.The house reportedly had been unoccupied since Levert’s death and was up for sale at the time of the fire.

Officials are investigating the blaze with the State Fire Marshal’s office.
