As of 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, Kasich held 64 percent of the total vote with 97 percent of precincts reporting. FitzGerald nabbed 33 percent of the vote with Rios getting 3 percent.

During the campaign, Kasich held a commanding lead over FitzGerald throughout the entire race; both in campaign funding and in the polls leading up to the election. Kasich also earned endorsements of three labor unions.

FitzGerald’s campaign lost momentum after stories were published about him not having driver’s license and being found in a car with a woman visiting from Ireland.
