According to Fox 28, police say they found 23-year-old Dominique Deshawn Thomas lying dead along Franklin Park South, near the Franklin Park Conservatory, early Saturday.

Columbus Division of Police released Thomas’ name about noon, counting his death as the 50th homicide in the city this year.

The circumstances surrounding Thomas’ death appeared to be “suspicious,” police at the scene told ABC6/FOX28’s Michele Newell.

Police say about 6 a.m. they received a call regarding a person lying on the ground along Franklin Park South at Franklin Park West. The caller said they thought the person had passed out. Once officers arrived at the scene, they discovered the body was a dead man.

Police say they think the shooter knew the victim.

A local resident told ABC6/FOX28’s Michele Newell that he awoke to the sounds of several gunshots and loud music.

Police vehicles blocked off the area along Franklin Park South at Franklin Park West in East Columbus. Several detectives and the crime scene investigation unit were examining the area. They say they expect to canvas the neighborhood later Saturday to find out if residents saw anything suspicious overnight.

No other details about this incident have been released.
