(RNN) – Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes is leaving the organization amid accusations of sexually harassing women anchors and other employees.

CNN and The New York Times reported earlier this week that his departure was being negotiated.

Rumors that the embattled Fox chief was on his last legs came after Associated Press reported that he  sexually harassed Fox News star Megyn Kelly.

Kelly, the network’s biggest star, and former anchor Gretchen Carlson made similar charges of inappropriate behavior against Ailes, 76, who has been Fox News’ founding chairman and CEO since 1996.

Kelly, who is in contract negotiations with the network, told New York Magazine that Ailes made unwanted sexual advances to her about 10 years ago when she was a Fox News correspondent. After Carlson filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against Ailes in early July, her lawyer said, at least a dozen women came forward with similar stories.

Multiple sources reported that Ailes was given the option of resigning or being fired by Aug. 1 after the story of Kelly’s accusations came to light.
