Rapper Jay Z will be honored at this years GLAAD Media Awards. GLAAD is the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. They will be honoring him for his song “Smile” from his latest album 4:44 – which depicts his mother Gloria Carter’s as a lesbian and single mom.

His mom was very apprehensive about him telling the story because she wasn’t sure how hip hop fans would react but Jay Z felt that hip hop is not as homophobic as some would think. Congrats Jay Z!
