A man was caught destroying items in a Greek Orthodox church in the 500 block of North High Street.
Police responded to a call about 30-year-old Mason Christian Mayerchak, who appeared to be intoxicated. Mayerchak refused to leave upon request, and then began destroying the church. Officers upon arrival found the suspect pulling a stained-glass window apart. The vandalism was also caught on surveillance video. Mayerchak is accused of vandalizing several items including a church pew, gospel stand, and a stain glass window, totaling up to $100,000 in damages.
He was placed in a police cruiser, during which his legs had to be restrained in addition to being handcuffed. Mayerchak is facing a charge of vandalism.
