I was reading a post today about how the GOP Chair Michael Steele had admitted in ways that the GOP does not care for Black people. The article touched on how conservatives are complaining and blaming the Democrats for making them look racist. Mr. Steele also addressed how the Democrats have fallen from their progressive roots and how he supports the Tea Party movement.

Sidenote: It just kills me to see this type of behavior still going on today. We look more like a civil rights era type of nation and brothers like this just don’t help our people. It’s obvious that this so called Tea Party movement attracts a certain type of individual and more and more of these individuals are gravitating to it daily. The Tea Party movement appeals mostly to white men, middle age, and from the South. Call it what you want but something just ain’t right when the Tea Party starts a militia. Where was all of this when Bush was using the country like a crash test dummy.

But I digress..

In the article Michael Steele discusses many points about how the Republican party has in some ways distanced itself from African Americans. He feels this needs to change. What stood out the most to me is this

The Republican Party has not given African Americans a good reason to vote for the party, Republican National Committee Chair Michael Steele said Tuesday night.

“You really don’t have a reason to, to be honest — we haven’t done a very good job of really giving you one. True? True,” Steele said at DePaul University, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Steele, the first African-American chairman for the RNC, said the GOP has lost its historical link to African Americans.

“This party was co-founded by blacks, among them Frederick Douglass,” he said. “The Republican Party had a hand in forming the NAACP, and yet we have mistreated that relationship. People don’t walk away from parties, their parties walk away from them.”
