Eddie Franklin, 52, was attacked by three people – two men and a woman – and was undergoing emergency surgery, Franklin spokeswoman Gwendolyn Quinn said this morning. She did not release the name of the hospital, and his condition wasn’t immediately known.
No additional details were available about the attack, Quinn said.
Detroit Police said they were looking into the matter but had no other information.
Eddie Franklin made a guest appearance on his mother’s latest release earlier his year, singing His Eye Is On the Sparrow on the the 12-track CD A Woman Falling Out of Love.
A gifted singer, Eddie Franklin also has sung for years at gospel concerts in the Detroit area.
Eddie Franklin was a suspect in a fall 2002 fire at a $1.6 million suburrban Detroit mansion his mother used for storage, but an investigation by the Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox’s Office later cleared him.
The home was known at the time to be severely underinsured. Lost in the fire were Grammy awards, dresses and other items Aretha Franklin had intended to donate to the Smithsonian Institution or other similar group.
