Growing up, most of us attended our neighborhood school — the local school in the area usually within walking distance or a short drive or bus ride away. There were then others in selected areas chosen by the school board who were bussed to suburban schools. All-in-all, generally our parents were told what school we would attend, based on where we lived. But, have you ever stopped to question this process? Those of us who are parents now, definitely should question where our children will receive their education and the quality of the education that is being offered at those institutions. Gone are the days when one could be comfortable in the fact that a child attending school is automatically being taught well. We have to be more aware and become more diligent in seeking THE BEST educational opportunities for not only our own children but the children of the community as a whole. When the youth of an entire community are receiving a quality education, that community has a bright future ahead.

Currently the State of Ohio offers two kinds of scholarships. The first is the Education Choice Scholarship Pilot Program, which will provide vouchers: EdChoice scholarships — up to a maximum of 5K for grades 9-12 and 4,250 for K-8th graders, if you reside in a school district where the school has not received a passing grade for two out of the last 3 years by Ohio Department of Education (ODE) Standards. Parents can apply for this scholarship through the admissions office of any of the approved private schools that accept the voucher. You can see that list and any other EdChoice information by clicking HERE.
