Ron Springs, ex-running back for the Dallas Cowboys and former Buckeye (1976-78), passed away after having been in a coma since October 2007.

While enrolled at Ohio State during the Woody Hayes years, Springs led the Buckeyes in rushing with 1,166 yards in 1977. In the three seasons he played, Springs set a record (18th to be exact) with 2,140 yards.

After Ohio State, Springs was drafted to the Dallas Cowboys, where he played for six seasons and two seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Springs fell into a coma after complications from surgery to remove a cyst from his forearm. He is survived by his son and former Ohio State cornerback, Shawn Springs and wife, Adriane.
