The Columbus Hidden Gems women’s semi-professional basketball team competes in the northeast division of the Women’s Blue Chip Basketball League. The Hidden Gems are currently enjoying their best season ever.  They’re looking to cap off their home campaign this Sunday at 5pm against the Flint Lady Monarchs.  Bring the family out and cheer on the Columbus Hidden Gems this Sunday July 8th at 5pm.  The Gems play their home games at Lazelle Woods Recreation Center located at 8140 Sancus Blvd in Columbus.  You’ll see a few familiar names and faces on the roster including:

•Star Allen, Independence— Ohio State

•Janicia Anderson, Africentric–Wilberforce

•Ashleigh Brown, Delaware Hayes — Miami

•*Tina Huff, Walnut Ridge, Alcorn State

•Crystal Murdaugh, Dublin Scioto—North Carolina A&T

•Lorrie Poindexter, Beechcroft—Central State

•*Tapre Young, Dublin Scioto— Salem International

The WBCBL will hold a national tournament Aug. 3-5 in Miami for qualifying teams. There are 54 teams competing among 12 divisions. The Columbus Hidden Gems made the tournament last year although they lost in the second round.  This year could prove to be a different story. Columbus Hidden Gems women’s professional basketball is in its 3rd season.  The Gems are led by Coach Luscious Jones and are sporting a 6 win 1 loss record so far this season!
