Indianapolis-based Simon Property Group and Tanger Factory Outlet Centers of North Carolina recently announced plans to to develop an upscale outlet center on a 65-acre tract of land near the southwestern section off of the Interstate 71/Ohio 37/U.S. 36 interchange.
“I don’t think there’s any doubt that Delaware County is going to be known as the retail mecca of Ohio,” Delaware County Commissioner Dennis Stapleton said.
The proposed 350,000-square-foot outlet mall will house more than 90 upscale brand name and designer outlet stores, according to a press release about the joint venture.
The grand opening of the shopping center, which is expected to be called Tanger Outlets, is expected to occur in time for the 2014 holiday shopping season.
The construction phase is expected to last about one year, and will create about 300 jobs for skilled workers. Once completed, the outlet mall is expected to employ more than 900 in retail and sales positions.
