A few years ago the coupon world exploded on national TV with a show called “Extreme Couponing”. Many thought it was a joke and people today still don’t believe that you can’t save 80% or more when you shop for your family.  Well, I am here today to share some of my top 5 Extreme Couponing Tips.

Tip #1

Purchase at least two Sunday papers.  With the purchase of two papers, you will have a net worth of over $200 worth of coupons.  These coupons can be used at your national and local grocery stores, drug stores and even dollar stores such as Dollar Tree.  To save on the cost of the Sunday paper, you can check out your local Dollar Tree. Many of them sell the paper.  You can also purchase discount newspaper subscriptions through Discount New Papers.

Tip #2

Print coupons from online sources.  Printable coupons are the 2nd highest in coupons redeemed next to paper coupons.  When you print coupons from online sources you can print two coupons per device.  One main source of printable coupons is the new P&G Brand Saver coupons.  With the new P&G Brand Saver printable site, you can print your favorite coupons before you shop.

Tip #3

Wait for a sale and use the coupons from the Sunday paper or from a printable website.   Keep in mind that Sale + Coupon = FREE or Cheap.  For example, if you print the $2.00/2 Pantene Hair Care Item from the P&G Brand Saver site, you can get a great deal at CVS.

Example:

Purchase (2) Pantene Shampoo or Conditioner 2 for $5.97

Use (1) Printable $2.00/2 Pantene coupon from the P&G Brand Saver Coupon

Pay $3.97

Get $1.00 in Extra Care Buck {It’s CVS money that can be used on you next purchase.}

Final Price $2.97

Making each item $1.48

Tip #4

Price match to save on grocery shopping.  Stores like Walmart and Target allow you to price match at their stores.  For a busy mom like myself, price matching allows me to gather up all of my sale ads and head to one store to complete my shopping.  With price matching, I save time, money and gas by completing my weekly shopping at one store.  Keep in mind that when you price match you can still use a coupon to save even more.

Tip #5

Stack manufacturer’s coupons with store coupons.  The one myth of couponing that many don’t believe is that you can use two coupons on one item.  One coupon can be a store coupon that is found in some stores sale ads or even in the store.  The other coupon is a manufacturer’s coupon that is either printed from an online source or clipped from the Sunday paper.  One great example of using a store and manufacturer’s coupon is as follows.

Example:

Purchase (1) Tide Boost on sale for $2.99 {Regular Price $6.99}

Use (1) $1.50/1 Tide Boost coupon from the P&G Brand Saver Printable Coupons

Use (1) $1.00/1 Tide Boost Target Store Coupon from 5/12 Red Plum Coupon Insert

Final Price $.49

By putting these five tips to work, you can save a lot of money on your weekly shopping budget. While many may think that extreme couponing is difficult, it really isn’t. Take a little time each week, purchase the Sunday papers, print coupons from online websites, and shop the sales. Take couponing on as a new hobby that will save you money. Happy couponing!
