COLUMBUS (Ken Hines) — The state attorney general is warning Ohioans about a scam involving rental homes advertised on Craigslist. Atty. General Mike DeWine said scam artists are posting pictures of homes that are for sale, and including offers of cheap rental payments.

The perpetrators of the scam demand that interested parties wire money, then they break off contact. Real estate agent Toby Boyce said the nature of Craigslist leads to these types of scams.

“Anytime you do something that’s free, someone’s going to abuse the system,” Boyce said. “It’s guaranteed.” DeWine said victims of the scam typically lose $1000. SOURCE
