The first positive West Nile virus of the season has been found in Franklin County.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ohio – The Franklin County Public Health department has been trapping the insects since May and has a trap from Hamilton Township that tested positive for the virus.

A total of 47 traps are set throughout the county, according to the department. The pool is identified as part of the weekly surveillance to help monitor the adult mosquito population in hopes of identifying the virus.

The department is scheduled to spray Hamilton Township, Reese, Shadeville and the Village of Lockbourne beginning at 9 p.m. on Thursday.

Multiple other communities including Mifflin Township, Clinton Township East, Prairie Township North and Whitehall are also scheduled to be sprayed beginning at the same time July 11 after a large number of mosquitoes were found in their traps this week. SOURCE
