COLUMBUS, Ohio –

A veteran Columbus police detective was arrested Friday and is facing unspecified federal charges.

Sources tell NBC4 that Columbus police robbery detective Steve Billups was arrested Friday afternoon by federal authorities.

Several sources inside the police department say that they first heard about the arrest shortly after 2 p.m. Friday.

A spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office refused to comment on the nature of any possible charges.

According to Jason Pappas with Capital City Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police, the union has not been contacted by Billups asking for representation.

Billups is currently being held in the Delaware County jail. SOURCE
